CYC Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort

On the first weekend of September, 2005, Keith Credo (co-founder of Credo & Young Consulting) was forced to pack his bags and leave his residence. Hurricane Katrina left him no choice. It was, as he put it, "simply the right thing to do." The New Orleans native was not avoiding the disaster area, but rather getting there as fast as he could. Keith made the realization that as he was sitting in his living room, people were starving to death.

Keith organized a group of three colleagues (Jenny Frembling, Wachindra Bandara, and Manoj Srivastava) from Florida Institute of Technology that departed for New Orleans to buy a flatboat and help with the relief effort in any way that they could.  Mr. Credo rented a large moving van in Meridian, MS, and used it to tow a 15’ flatboat which they purchased in nearby Union, MS. Frank Duncan, a local Mississippi Emergency Management director, connected the group with a local

National Guard food and water distribution center.  He also connected them with a Decatur, MS church that provided a large amount of donated clothes.  Duncan coordinated an escort for the team into the distribution center for severely under-supplied Tangipahoa and Washington parishes.  The team then delivered the flatboat to be used in rescue operations. Keith and his colleagues are planning many upcoming trips to help at shelters inundated with evacuees.  If you would like to find some ways that you can help, please visit the links below.
